This is a larger version of a study done on locatin. It just seemed to have all the elements of a scene: light, shadow, form, and color. Painting beside a running stream on a sun filled day in New Mexico isnt bad either
Here is something i dont usually paint, sort of a natural still life if you will, but i thought it went rather well, o.k. at least i had a lot of fun painting it! Have you ever touched one of these guys? I did-last time...oops!
mmm.... thats odd, what is it? this is what naturally happens in the constantly shifting sands of NewMexico. Over years the winds remove the sand around this extremely large bush leaving the roots exposed and the compact sand beneath it-the painting probably doesnt do justice to the scale of this thing. It is literally a story and a half high! weird yet wonderful!
painted during my residence in New Mexico at White Sands, the sands can have almost "snow" like qaulities-or is it just that im from Minnesota?
Ya know- i could get used to painting here (NM) plein airpainting, looking west in Alamogordo yes, thats White Sands national monument in the distance.
The afternoon light on the grass was to much to pass up for me-a neighborhood painting if you will . The neighbors liked it-i wonder if Ray would?
