This one was painted near the end of my residency in New Mexico. The Organ Mountains are a spectacular view as you drive from White Sands towards Las Cruces.
This was the largest studio piece i did in New Mexico, based on a small study done just past sunset (o.k. it was actually getting dark) and some photo reference.Although the day was warm, the desert cools considerably as the sun fades behind the Sacremento Mountains.
Old trucks never cease to be subject matter for me, besides the interesting shapes and colors they offer, they always seem to fit into the natural landscape as well. This scene was taken from the largest collection of junkers (trucks, cars, buses etc) i have ever scene, and ol George there on highway #54 was very gracious about letting me paint there-enjoy 
This is a larger version of a study done on locatin. It just seemed to have all the elements of a scene: light, shadow, form, and color. Painting beside a running stream on a sun filled day in New Mexico isnt bad either
Here is something i dont usually paint, sort of a natural still life if you will, but i thought it went rather well, o.k. at least i had a lot of fun painting it! Have you ever touched one of these guys? I did-last time...oops!
mmm.... thats odd, what is it? this is what naturally happens in the constantly shifting sands of NewMexico. Over years the winds remove the sand around this extremely large bush leaving the roots exposed and the compact sand beneath it-the painting probably doesnt do justice to the scale of this thing. It is literally a story and a half high! weird yet wonderful!

Ya know- i could get used to painting here (NM) plein airpainting, looking west in Alamogordo yes, thats White Sands national monument in the distance.
The afternoon light on the grass was to much to pass up for me-a neighborhood painting if you will . The neighbors liked it-i wonder if Ray would?

Painted during the Aitkin River boat days plein air painting competition. I found this guy sitting in the weeds across the street from a resort on the north side of Mille Lacs Lake. The owner claimed it has taken many large salmon!

Ok- i got this thing for old trucks. I guess i like the way they just sit ,through all the seasons, never complaining, just hoping to be restored to their former selves, while quietly rusting away in the meantime.

Bridges always make an easy composition, heres one with an intersecting path to boot!
Standing in the shadows, i saw this wonderful rhythm, albiet the odd shaped oak on the left. So many woodticks!
