I forgot my camera that day, and the snow soon melted, so my field study was my single reference. That made me confront some challenges while doing the painting- I might add im pleased with the result-

Study for Winter Solitude

11x14 oil/linenEvery so often, when your out scouting for locations, you see the completed painting in your mind before you even set up your easel. Such was the case with this one-i couldnt wait to get at it! I hope i captured it well enough to share it with you.
I think i may attempt this one as a larger studio painting. I will post progress as it happens.

February Sunshine

White Sands Twilight

20x24 oil /linen SOLD This was the largest studio piece i did in New Mexico, based on a small study done just past sunset (o.k. it was actually getting dark) and some photo reference.Although the day was warm, the desert cools considerably as the sun fades behind the Sacremento Mountains.
